The Battalion held their annual Spring Service today at Cairnlea Parish Church, Airdrie. Over 200 people enjoyed a great service all about our digital technology, with not a bit of electronic hardware in sight, it was all about our hands and our digits. Rev Peter Donald, Battalion Chaplain led the service.

As well as all Companies joining in the fellowship, Battalion President Derek Craig had the pleasure of handing out some trophies and donations to charities.

Pictured above are some members of 8th Airdrie and 15th Coatbridge Anchor Boy Sections who jointly won the recent Anchor Section Competition.

This is the Senior Cross Country team who took 1st Place in the recently held National Cross Country Championships. 2 of the Boys had just rushed back from the Kings Badge residential course at Carronvale House, hence no uniform, and the thanks and congratulations of all in the Battalion goes to them.

Captain Lisa Elliott of 1st Coatbridge was presented with a cheque for £500 to go towards Changing Faces Charity, Lisa explained that at Changing Faces, they describe visible difference as a scar, mark or condition on your face or body that makes you look different.

This can be something you are born with (the medical term for this is “congenital”) or it could occur or develop during your life. Anyone can be affected by a visible difference, at any point in their life. The Charity was nominated by Lisa and we were delighted to make this award.

The second charity to be awarded £500 was Airdrie Community Club, a grassroots football club based in Airdrie, with over 400 members and with players and coaches from all over the central belt.

The Club are actively taking ownership of a piece of land in Airdrie and fundraising to place an Astroturf pitch on the ground and give generations of children and adults somewhere to go and enjoy football and be healthy. Club Chairman John Truesdale, Who was BB Boy wit 5th Airdrie Company, gave an insight into what the club are doing but also praised highly the work of the BB and what it meant to him personally.

The Charity was nominated by Captain Billy Barclay of 15th Coatbridge.

Our thanks go to everyone who came along to the service.
